Lawrence Gibbs, Jr. 72, of Metropolis, died at 2:42 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2024, at his residence.Family and friends are asked to meet at Joppa Missionary Baptist Church where funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, with David Wright officiating. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens.Lawrence was a member of Joppa Missionary Baptist Church and the Land of Lincoln for 50 years.Lawrence is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marie Gibbs; sons, Jeremy Leroy Gibbs, Joey Kenneth Gibbs, and Gary Miller and wife Nana; four grandchildren, Asia, Joseph, Hope, and Dontavis; one great granddaughter; sisters, Etta Gibbs and Sharon Klass; several nieces and nephews.Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Lester Gibbs, Sr. and Iva Marie (Depper) Gibbs; an infant daughter; four sisters, Judy, Linda, Brenda, and Kathy; three brothers, Richard Gibbs, Donald McDowell, and Bobby Depper.Arrangements have been entrusted to Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-Mc
