Dean "Deano" Laird, 82 of Lone Oak, formerly of Union City, Tennessee, passed away at 9:50 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Mercy Health Paducah with his family by his side. He was born on March 31, 1942, in Metropolis, Illinois, the son of Alvin P. and Kathleen Lucille (Anderson) Laird and was raised in Joppa.Masonic Rites were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 26, 2024, followed by the funeral service at the Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home in Metropolis. Rev. Tom Quimby officiated. Burial followed in the DeSoto Cemetery.Dean married the love of his life, Peggy Ellen Wolfe, on April 6, 1962. He was a member of Joppa Missionary Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge in DeSoto, Illinois, and the Ainad Shrine of East St. Louis. He retired as the public works director for Union City, Tennessee, and had previously been employed for 18 years by United Cities Gas Company as a town manager.
